GASP WHAT A GORGEOUS DRESS
This is nutty!
ELVIRA ‘T HART ILLUSTRATIVE WEAR
Elvira ‘t Hart is a recent fashion graduate whose latest collection aims to translate 2D sketches to 3D garments. This is an obvious aim of most fashion designers. However, instead of filling in where the pen stops, Hart actually makes her sketches the pattern. Using laser cuts, one can see how lines abruptly stop, outlines are inconsistent much like that of hand generated sketches, spaces are empty, and one automatically fills in this space with their imagination. The use of the imagination is the primary goal of Hart, as she explains, “An image is reduced to lines, planes and areas which do not have to be fully formed or finished in order to portray their ultimate meaning: it stimulates the imagination.”

The Forest Spirit
Princess Mononoke
Katsucon 2013
One of my favorite costumes from the weekend - this is such a clever interpretation the Forest Spirit! This lady added lots of neat touches, like kodama peeping out from the headdress and the sprouts coming out of her shoes.HOW DOES THIS HAVE ONLY 28 NOTES

THIS IS STUNNING
This seriously needs more attention!
very interesting and cool interpretation
I haven’t seen this movie and I don’t plan to because from what I’ve heard it’s absolutely horrid, but SWEET JESUS LOOK AT THIS DRESS. Eiko, why did you have to go?
Bringing this back for Eiko.
Eiko shoulda won for being Eiko.
As a costumer myself, it’s impossible to look at this and not understand the sheer time that the complexity and detail would have required. And true, the designer themselves don’t necessarily assemble their designs, but they are involved in every aspect of their pieces, including picking out and approving the very trims and embroidery designs that are applied on gowns like these. Eiko most definitely deserved a win.
Eiko you are sorely missed.
