Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra (1963)
Renie Conley, the costume designer for Taylor’s beautiful-but period-inaccurate gowns, won the 1963 Academy Award for Best Costume Design. The costume designer opted to create gowns that would emphasise the actress’ beauty and sexuality rather than historical accuracy to further emphasise her role as the legendary seductress, Cleopatra.
